Like GW Start Ups? Check Out AthleteTrax

AthleteTrax was started a couple of years ago some several current GWSB undergraduate students after winning the GW Business Plan Competition.  Since 2012, AthleteTrax has been burning up the start up scene making appearances in Washington, DC and throughout the East Coast.

AthleteTrax is designed to provide a comprehensive solution that takes the headache and hassle out of managing an athletic team. The platform makes scheduling, communicating, and fundraising for teams effortless by giving them the ability to have a central team calendar, mass text message communicate, and reach a broad audience to raise funds for team dues and expenses. Furthermore, AthleteTrax can provide teams with the capability to build and track workouts and upload unlimited video content. All of this together is the ultimate solution for simple and effective team management.

Currently, AthleteTrax has made serious progress working with 48 teams and over 1,300 users at 18 different schools and 14 different sports at the high school/ college (NCAA/club) level.

The MBAA encourages you to visit the AthleteTrax website at www.athlete-trax.com.  Or if you know of an athlete or team that may be interested in signing up, encourage them to sign up for a free trial here www.athlete-trax.com/subscribe.

Oh, and their co-founder and CEO Jon Halpern is a pretty good guy, so feel free to contact him directly at jhalpern ( at ) athlete-trax.com for more information.

GW AMBA’s Kickstarter Project Gains National Attention; Finds Himself on ESPN

Game Day Pic 3AMBA Stephen Keefe has a new social crowd-funding project that’s attracting attention from college sports fans and entrepreneurs all around the U.S.  …And if you were watching ESPN’s College Gameday before the LSU vs Alabama game a few Saturdays ago, you probably saw him him dressed head to toe in a bear costume, complete with 2 inch white teeth and claws.

Why?  Well, besides being a lifelong Alabama Football supporter, Stephen Keefe is also the great grandson of Carney Laslie, Assistant Head Coach to Bear Bryant for more than 20 years.  For Keefe, the stunt was an eye-catching and humorous way to tip his hat to one of college football’s legendary figures.

Screenshot 2013-11-18 17.53.03But, despite the hundreds of thousands viewing the broadcast from across the country, only those in attendance were able to grasp the true motivation behind this Keefe’s clever getup.

Stephen is promoting “Tide to A Dream: In the Shadow of the Bear”, a forthcoming book by his mother and Laslie’s granddaughter, Carey Laslie Keefe, about Bryant’s unwavering and remarkable quest to win college football national championships. In spite of his enormous impression on Bryant and the Alabama team, Laslie’s influence has remained largely in the shadows – until now.

Alabama v LSU Pre_GameThe book narrates Bryant’s role in achieving three national titles in the 1960s and is currently being circulated on the social crowdfunding website Kickstarter, which relies on pre-sales to effectively raise enough money to complete and publish the story.

This past Friday, the book was profiled by Sports Illustrated affiliate BamaHammer and several private funding sources with ties to the University of Alabama have expressed interest in funding the effort.

Keefe’s Kickstarter project expires in two weeks.  Before its too late, be sure to check out his project and consider making a pledge.  If he doesn’t hit his goal than no money is collected (no one gets charged), but Keefe won’t be able to launch his project.

So, let’s show some spirit and spreading the word about Keefe’s Kickstarter campaign.  Click on the links below to go to his project and find out more info on his website. And be sure to like his Facebook page “Tide to A Dream“.
